Obituary

Lucille Julie Kresta Grahmann, 92, of Hallettsville TX, passed away on March 8, 2016 in Soldalis Memory Care Home in Victoria TX. She was born on December 01, 1923 in Lavaca County to the late Joe P. and Julia Rabel Kresta.  She grew up in the Witting/Breslau Area and attended Stacy School.  She married Alois H. Grahmann on October 20, 1948 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hallettsville, TX.  They made their home in Hallettsville where they raised their family on the farm.  Lucille was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and VFW Auxiliary and volunteered at the LAMB shop in Hallettsville.  She truly enjoyed listening to polka music and dancing to it in her kitchen.  She also enjoyed her grandchildren coming to visit and always had something good for them to eat.

Lucille and Alois bought the farm that the house was on, and raised 13 children. Lucille had a busy life gardening, sewing, cooking, baking bread, canning meats, fruits and vegetables, curing ham and bacon, frying cracklings and even making homemade soap. She had the farm full of animals as Alois worked the fields, and took care of the hogs, cows, turkeys, guineas and chickens. She loved her farm-fresh eggs and kept the chickens until the day she went to Sodalis in Victoria.

Lucille always prayed the rosary, wore her scapular faithfully, and kept her crucifix and holy pictures nearby. Lucille sewed many pick sacks, always making them large enough to give the younger children a ride up and down the cotton rows. She made bedspreads out of ducking material until she found out she could order heavy duty ones from the Sears and Roebuck Catalog. She was patching blue jeans day and night – only if she would have known that you could now wear blue jeans with holes in them.

In her younger years, Lucille did not drive and did not even have a driver's license. She would drive her children to the fields though. Once she was driving some of her children back to the field after lunch. She came upon a water branch in the pasture road. All of the kids jumped off the vehicle so she would not turn them over. Of course, we kids were teasing her, as we were all piled upon the 1933 Chevy Coupe fenders holding onto the lights. After Alois passed away in June 1991, she did obtain her driver's license. She enjoyed driving herself to town to get groceries, to her volunteer job at L.A.M.B. thrift store, and to church. Lucille was a hard-working person and had a busy life with her family, especially with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Lucille is survived by: seven daughters , Laura Ruth  Schauermann  (Jim) of Porter, TX, Rita Kominczak (Lawrence) of Houston, TX, Dolores Holly (Bobby)  of Victoria, TX, Joan Grahmann of Yoakum, TX, Sharon Bohuslav (Robert) of St. Mary's, Kansas, Alice Wagner Motal (Dennis) of Hallettsville, TX, Laurie Berger (Michael) of Schulenburg, TX; six sons , Arthur Grahmann  (Kelly Goll) of Sugarland, TX, Elroyce (Chuck) Grahmann (Valerie) of Victoria, TX, Anthony (Crimp) Grahmann  (Samantha) of Hallettsville, TX, Melvin (Punk) Grahmann (Brenda) of Sugarland, TX, Stanley Grahmann of Sugarland, TX, Alois Grahmann  (Theresa) of Sugarland, TX; twenty-nine grandchildren , Lisa Teague (Justin) of Witicha Falls, Amy Kominczak of Houston TX, Doyle Holly (Kristy), Jeff Holly (Amy) of Victoria, TX, Scott Holly (Ellie Thedford) of Edna, TX, Crystal Grahmann of Houston TX, Chad Grahmann (Karissa) of Houston TX, Ross Grahmann of Pflugerville TX, Rachel Grahmann of San Antonio TX, Bailey, Maci, and Hayden Grahmann of Hallettsville TX, Megan Grahmann of College Station, TX, Michelle and Monica Grahmann of Sugarland, TX, April Cornwell (Nicholas) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Brent Bohuslav of California, LeAnne Curry (Ryan) of St. Mary's; Kansas, Kayla and Connor  Bohuslav of St. Mary's, Kansas; Nicholas, Alline and Garrett Grahmann of Sugarland, TX, Jacob Neskora and Josh Wagner of Hallettsville TX; Melanie, Andrew, Thomas, and Celine Berger of Schulenburg TX; sixteen great-grandchildren , Isaac, Aidan, Emily, and Clare Teague; Dawson, Karson, Brady, Brooke, and Blair Holly, Jeremy Grahmann; Cecilia, Sebastian, and Sienna Cornwell; Caroline, Madelyn and Zachary Curry; sister Lillian Fikac (Leon) of New Braunfels, TX; brother-in-law Eugene Pavlas of Bastrop Texas; sister-in-law , Lilly Lutz of D'Hanis Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
