Loyd Wayne Craig, 75, of Sublime, Texas passed away peacefully on December 03, 2023, at Village Green Care Center in Cypress, Texas. He was born to Loyd Craig and Phylis Freytag on June 14, 1948.
Loyd was raised in Flatonia, Texas and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1965 where he served his country until 1971. He was a Vietnam veteran and was awarded two purple heart service medals for being wounded in action. Loyd remained active in the military community his entire life. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion post 560 in Houston, Texas and belonged to the VFW post 8790 in Houston, Texas.
Loyd married Catherine Ann Valicek on March 14, 1970, and together they raised five children. Loyd entered the electrical industry and furthered his education by becoming a Journeyman and then eventually became a master electrician. He retired from Lindsey Electric in Houston, Texas in 2019. He remained a member of the IBEW Local Union 66.
Loyd lived a full life, always staying active and participating in the things he enjoyed. He enjoyed playing pool, poker, and darts. He played darts for many years on the N.W. Houston dart league earning the title of the top male player in the league continuously. It was a sport that he enjoyed playing professionally with his daughter. Loyd also enjoyed riding his scooter throughout his farm with his beloved pet dog named Rufus. Wherever Loyd was, Rufus went. In his later years, Loyd took a special interest in planting flowers, watering them, and watching them grow. Loyd loved visiting with family and friends and was especially fond of spending time with his grandchildren.
Loyd is survived by: his wife of 53 years Catherine Craig; his children, Carma Craig of Edna, Texas, Candy Knickerbocker & husband Daniel of Cypress, Texas, Carrie Flores & husband Antonio of Katy, Texas, Kevin Craig of Sublime, Texas, and Cheryl Agha & husband Shoaib of Cypress, Texas; his 16 grandchildren, Joshua Gutierrez, Jeremy Gutierrez & wife Chelsey, Kirstin Brocker, Briar Brocker, Mason Jalufka & wife Brailyn, Matthew Jalufka, Draven Denison, Damien Flores, Domenick Flores & wife Monica, Robert Flores, Carlos Flores, Catherine Craig, Sky Craig, Sarra Craig, Michael Figueroa, and Adam Agha; his 12 great grandchildren, Owen Gutierrez, Olivia Gutierrez, Ali Gutierrez, Gracelyn Brock, Madelyn Brock, Xander Latham, Gavin Latham, Kauner Jalufka, Laila Jalufka, Damien Flores, Jasmine Flores, and Brynleigh Brocker; 2 brothers, Brian Craig & wife Nancy and Blake Craig & wife Kimberly; 2 sisters, Diana Craig Goodall and Linda Craig Beale & husband Paul.
Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd Craig and Phylis Freytag, stepfather Ralph Freytag, nephew Colby Craig, and grandson David Sanchez.
Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 8, 2023, at Sublime Baptist Church with Visitation starting at 9 a.m. Officiate: Rev. Jeremy Kratz. Pallbearers: Jeremy Gutierrez, Draven Denison, Mason Jalufka, Matthew Jalufka, Damien Flores, Domenick Flores, Carlos Flores, and Robert Flores. Honorary Pallbearers: Joshua Gutierrez, Briar Brocker, Adam Agha, and Michael Figueroa. Memorials: Donor's Choice. Burial (Graveside): 1 pm, Friday, December 8, 2023, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Flatonia, TX.
