IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Loyce
Striebeck
October 12, 1934 – August 28, 2019
Loyce Loper Striebeck, 84, of Hallettsville, passed away on August 28, 2019. Loyce was born on October 12, 1934, to Ray Loper and Irene Cleveland Loper in Sebastopol, Mississippi.
Loyce was Valedictorian of Class of 1952 in Sebastopol High School. Because of her love for children and her desire to be a teacher, she turned down a basketball scholarship in order to attend George Peabody School for Teachers (Vanderbilt University) in Nashville, Tennessee. She graduated in 1955 and began her teaching career in West Carroll Parish, Louisiana. During this time, she met and fell in love with her future husband, William (Bill) H. Striebeck III, who was working for Texaco. Loyce and Bill married on August 11, 1956, in Epps, Louisiana. After the birth of their first child, they moved to Hallettsville.
Loyce was a well-respected local fourth grade teacher and will be fondly remembered by all for her creativity in the classroom. Geography lessons were fun and often included singing, tasting interesting foods, and writing pen pals from all around the world. She placed a rocking chair in her classroom so that her "wiggling" students could remain in the classroom and still enjoy the lessons.
In addition to teaching, Loyce enjoyed baking beautiful cakes for many local weddings throughout the area. She was active in local politics serving as the Lavaca County Republican Chairman from 1974-1991.
Loyce loved her family dearly and loved the Lord. Her strong faith sustained her through her final days in her earthly home.
Loyce is survived by her five children and their families: Julie Bokmeyer (Seth), William Ray Striebeck, Timothy Striebeck (Lorena), Mark Striebeck, and Carrie Strickland (Sam); grandchildren, Justin Bokmeyer & wife Lauren, Adam Bokmeyer & wife Kate, Austin Bokmeyer, Rachel Bokmeyer, Jason Striebeck & wife Gwen, Ann Klein Striebeck, Caleb Striebeck, Roxana Striebeck, Yan Striebeck & wife Kylie Bumgardner & husband David, Ian Strickland, Annie Strickland, Joshua Strickland; and five great-grandchildren.
Loyce was preceded in death by her husband Bill and her parents.
