Obituary

Lonny Edward Jares, 71, of Hallettsville, passed away January 16, 2018. He was born on July 20, 1946 to Daniel F. & Viola Blaha Jares in Hallettsville. He was a member of the American Legion and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.

Lonny was a great father to two girls, a grandfather to three grandchildren, a brother to four siblings, and an uncle to 12 nephews and nieces. His patience and care for others was immense. He spent many years taking care of his parents so that they could enjoy their golden years on their farm. Truly, he spent his time serving others. If a cold overnight freeze was coming, Lonnie was ready to go move animals or prepare water pipes. During the popular days of outdoor skating, you would see Lonnie clearing the floor at the Pecan Grove Skating Rink, or if you were lucky, you might see him skating.

Lonny would always spend time with anyone that wanted to visit. He was never too busy to explain how an engine worked, play a game of chess, or take you for a ride in his sports car. No matter what the challenge was, Lonnie would give his live and time to others.

Lonny is survived by: 2 daughters, Renee Poag & husband Thomas of Austin, and Tracy Jares & husband Nicolas Medina of Austin; sister Judy Werner of Hallettsville; 3 grandchildren, Warren Shirley, Steven Rios and Michael Medina; and 1 great grandchild on the way.

Lonny was preceded in death by: his parents; 2 brothers, Sylvester and Danny Jares; and sister Annette Fajkus.

Funeral Mass Service: 2 pm, Monday, January 22, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 5 pm, Sunday at Kubena Funeral Home with Rosary starting at 6 pm. Pallbearers: Thomas Poag, Warren Shirley, Nico Medina, Danny Boyd, Frank Jares, Jerry Fajkus, and Steven Rios. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Memorials: Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Donor's Choice.
