Obituary

Lois Hobbs Bradley, 80, of Hallettsville, passed away May 17, 2024.  What a spit fire she was.  Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico - July 8th, 1943.  The 3rd child of Roland & Lois Hobbs.  She had two older brothers William and Louis Hobbs.  From the time she could walk she always wanted a horse of her own, often times climbing on the cowboys' horses after they tied them to the pens on a long day of working cows.  Roland, her father, always said horses are too expensive but her momma made it happen.  After finding some ole nag Lois Ann was thrilled to have a horse, she called her own.  She pulled around a cotton sack filling it full of pecans to buy her first saddle.  Her momma and dad bought her first Cadillac and one-horse bumper pull trailer that her mom pulled her around Texas in competing in girl break away.

Lois had an ole horse that would rare up in the box and she had to keep a broom handle tied to her saddle horn so he would behave.  Once she and that ole horse left the box no calf could out run him but you had to rope the calf or that horse would blow by them.  She won numerous championships, her most memorable one is the Hallettsville state championship in breakaway.  Soon after She spotted Harvey Gene Bradley at a rodeo where Harvey was riding Bronc's.  She spotted him from a distance, kicked her horse and away she went with her sights on Harvey ….  Little did he know he was to be drug off info the sunset where they married soon after. Short time later Kelly was born being mom's pride and joy she took him everywhere and had him every horse she owned … cleaning stalls from the time he could walk and later getting thrown off of one which is probably the reason he doesn't have horses today, but he did get to see Elvis at the Astrodome one weekend because she was running.  Then along comes Ed about 5 years later …. Yet another victim of her horses and stall cleaning but he and Kelly got into the show side with pigs and chickens until they got old enough to venture out and have their own life.  Then can son Robet Dalton who died 2 months later.

Yet Lois wasn't satisfied with having boys and she tried and tried to have a little girl but approximately 18 years later she ended up with another boy ole Harlen.  Now Harlen is the most calmest non bothered …. No drama person you could ever meet … yet she still wasn't satisfied so 18 months later here comes her GIRL!!!  Now I was always way bigger than Harlen so I bullied him and would sit on him (literally) and mom always tore my ass up with fly swatter yet Harlen and I always were outside playing in the dirt and mud.  Lois hauled us all over Texas to rodeos and jackpots and would get so driven into her barrel races she would literally leave Harlen and I at the jackpots and drive off without us but she always returned remembering she had 2 kids with her!!!  We had the best competitive and hard headed mom there ever was.  Being lazy and feeling sorry for yourself was not a way of life for her.  She always made things happen and would always have a way of making you feel like you could conquer the world with hard work and dedication.

So, life goes on and we all grow up and here we are.  Lois ended up with grandkids, Thomas, Elizabeth, John, Jayse, Dallas, Kodee, Trinity, and Tyler.  Most of them are almost near grown and they have had the privilege of knowing their grandma at her last days.  She was most known for her loud contagious laugh, pink lipstick, awesome pecan pies that people would fight over bidding at auctions.  She could cook but everything was fried and lots of calories!!!  She was always trying to feed you … that was her love language and by gosh you were going to eat….  It didn't matter if you were a cow a horse or anything she was gonna feed you.  She loved with her whole heart but she damn sure tell you what she thought too.  She is our best friend and now our angel in heaven watching us from afar.  She passed away peace and grace and most of all surrounded by her family.
