Obituary

Lillie Spies, 93, of Hallettsville, passed away May 5, 2016. She was born on June 22, 1922 to Charlie & Emma Tesch Johnson Sr. in Hallettsville. She married Stanley Spies on January 10, 1946 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hallettsville. They lived on their farm in the Old Kinkler Community. She taught Sunday School at Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

Lillie is survived by: niece Rose Jeanette Mertz Litzmann, great-niece Lisa Brosch, great-nephew Larry Litzmann & wife Isabel; 5 great great nieces; 1 great great nephew; and 1 great great great nephew.

Lillie was preceded in death by: Husband Stanley; parents; 2 brothers, Edwin Herman "Cotton" Johnson and Charlie Max "Sonny" Johnson Jr.; 2 sisters, Ida Koch and Helen Mertz; niece Joyce Mertz Senter; and great niece Karen Litzmann Stevens.

The family would like to thank the Hallettsville Rehab & Nursing Center, Hospice of South Texas for their excellent care, kindness and love.

Funeral Service: 3 pm, Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Monday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Pallbearers: Larry Litzmann, Ron Peterson, Eddie David, Tommy Brandenberger, Paul Voelkel, and Bill Appelt. Officiants: Rev. Ray Hagen and Msgr. John Peters. Memorials (in lieu of flowers): St. Peter Lutheran Church, Sacred Heart Church, Hospice of South Texas, Hallettsville Rehab & Nursing Center or charity of donor's choice. Burial: Hallettsville City Cemetery. Reception (after burial): St. Peter Lutheran Fellowship Hall, all are invited, and thank you for coming & sharing your condolences.
