Obituary

Lillie Emily Frieda, 94, of Hallettsville, passed away peacefully at Hallettsville Rehabilitation Center Oct. 12, 2008. She was born on March 05, 1914 in Hallettsville to Frank & Frances Janus. She attended school at Vsetin and was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Yoakum, Texas. She married Lester "Boots" Frieda on November 26, 1931 in Hallettsville. To this union was born four daughters, Lois Rieda Cejka, Lila Frieda Bade, Leona Frieda Bennetsen, and Joyce Frieda Koerth. They were married for 54 years until his death on April 22, 1985.

Lillie worked on the farm, owned City Café in Hallettsville for 10 years, worked as a nurse's aid at Weimar Hospital, and helped as a sitter in homes and hospitals. Eventually she opened her greenhouse nursery at her home in Yoakum where she grew African Violets and potted plants. She truly loved her flowers and it showed in the yard. She always had roses or hydrangeas. She never hesitated to baby sit for grandchildren or great-grandchildren.

Lillie's remaining years were spent in Yoakum Rehab and Hallettsville Rehab where she made many friends with her wise cracking and cheerful smile. One of her favorite sayings was when asked how she felt "With My Fingers". When her granddaughter asked why she didn't have wrinkles, she said, " I use Cheer washing powder, it gets the wrinkles out".

Lillie is survived by: 3 daughters Joyce Koerth and husband Milton of Hallettsville, Lila Bade and husband Homer of Thomaston, Texas and Leona Bennetsen of Seadrift, Texas; 17 Grandchildren; 40 Great-Grandchildren; 24 Great-Great-Grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lillie was preceded in death by: Husband; parents; daughter Lois Cejka; 3 sisters Valasta Zapalac, Frances Rehak, and Agnes Kovarek; 1 brother Frankie Janus; and 1 Great-Grandchild Christopher Bowman.

Service: 2pm, Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, at Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville. Visitation: 12 noon, Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008 at the Kubena Funeral Home. Family will be receiving visitors between 4:30pm and 6:30pm. Pallbearers: Rex Bennetsen, Clinton Bennetsen, Richard Koerth, Delton Bennetsen, Kenneth Cejka, and Nick Shimek Jr. Honorary Pallbearers: are all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Officiate: Rev. Gary Goodson Burial: Vsetin Cemetery. Memorials: Hospice of South Texas or donors choice.
