Obituary

Lester Ziegler, 90, of Hallettsville, passed away June 5, 2010. He was born on Aug. 25, 1919 to Robert & Mathilda Berkovsky Ziegler in Lavaca County, Texas. He married Leona Mican Ziegler on July 24, 1992 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. He was a Veteran of WWII; a member of VFW, American Legion, Masonic Lodge, SPJST, RVOS, and St. Peter Lutheran Church of Hallettsville.

Lester served in the US Army during World War II, attached to Company A, 612th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 bronze service stars for, Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns; the American Theater Campaign Medal; the Good Conduct Medal; World War II Victory Medal; and Distinguished Unit Badge.

Lester is survived by: his wife Leona; step children, Nancy Dworsky & husband Ben of Hallettsville, Ronnie Holubec & wife Debie of Sugarland, Margaret Chudej & husband Aaron of Moulton, Michael Tobola of Hallettsville, and Patrick Tobola of Austin; and numerous step grandchildren & great grandchildren.

Lester was preceded in death by; his first wife Justine Kanak Tobola Ziegler, and his parents.

Funeral Service: 11 am, Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Visitation: 5 pm, Monday at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiate: Rev. Dr. Alan Williams. Pallbearers: Glen Janca, Pete Nicholson, Jimmy Garner, Larry Kallus, Henry Kallus Jr., and Clay Zavesky. Honorary Pallbearers: James Garner, Robert Nicholson, and step grandchildren & great grandchildren. Burial: Hallettsville City Cemetery. Memorials: St. Peter Fellowship Hall Fund.
