Obituary

Lester Garhardt Sicko, 87, of Hallettsville, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 9, 2016. Lester or otherwise known as "Blue Eyes" was born in Sublime, Texas on June 25, 1929 to Otto and Emma (Backhause) Sicko. He was married to the love of his life, Dorothy (Treptow) Sicko for over 56 years. Lester and Dorothy were united in marriage by Rev. Alois J. Morkovsky at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville on Sunday, February 21, 1960.

Dorothy and Lester resided in Cuero for the first twenty-one years of their marriage. Lester began his working career building board-roads for oilfield companies in his early twenties. Soon after, he began his Army training in June, 1953. He served in the Korean War and was later stationed in Germany. Lester received his discharge papers in September, 1960. He then began working for H.R. Judd delivering fruits and vegetables in Shiner, Moulton, Yoakum, and Hallettsville. Then, in 1981, Lester and Dorothy moved to Hallettsville, Texas. Lester began his own business known as Lester's Produce and delivered fruits and vegetables to local supermarkets and surrounding towns. He enjoyed his business and then later worked for Hoffer's Drive Inn for a number of years alongside his wife, Dorothy.

Lester was a life-time member of Veterans of Foreign War. He was also an American Legion member for over fifty years. Lester had a number of cattle that he and Dorothy enjoyed tending to. In his spare time, Lester also enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, making beaded key chains, deer hunting in the Hill Country, and playing cards and dominoes with his close friends at Carl Klimitchek's camphouse on Thursday nights. Lester's birthday parties were always an occasion he wanted to celebrate and didn't want you to miss out on.
