Obituary

Leonard Barrett Meyer, 87, of Houston, passed away March 15, 2020. He was born on November 6, 1932, to Leonard Berry & Mexie Sprinkle Meyer in Lavaca County, south of Hallettsville in a shack, a simple beginning for a man who would go on to accomplish so much in life. He was born with disabilities which he had to struggle with his entire life, yet he was able to overcome them.

Leonard was in multiple schools throughout his youth as his family was constantly moving, but as the newspaper article which was written about him after he scored top marks in High School, stated "Who says rolling-stones gather no moss?" He went on to graduate with a degree in Pharmacy from Eastern Oklahoma State University. While his career as a Pharmacist was long and distinguished, it was not what defined him.

Leonard was a lifelong conservative Republican and Church of Christ member, "Barry" as he was known to friends and extended family, was warm, affectionate, compassionate, and had a wonderful sense of humor with a laugh that was contagious. Barry loved to sing and his voice was beautiful to all who heard his high tenor and was the song leader at most of the churches he was a member of. He was a proud member of Mensa. "Papa" as he was known affectionately by his 2 sons and 2 daughters, considered his greatest legacy to be his love of our Lord Jesus Christ and devotion to his commandments which he instilled in each of his children. Leonard Barrett Meyer will be dearly missed by all who had the distinct privilege of knowing him.

Leonard is survived by: 2 sons, Christopher B. Meyer, and Whitt Meyer & wife Carrie; 2 daughters, Mexie Sands & husband Ryan, and Courtney Hawkins & husband Jim; and 5 grandchildren.

Leonard was preceded in death by: his parents, brother Alan Meyer and sister Gail Marlyne Meyer.

Funeral Service: 2 pm, Saturday, March 21, 2020, at Kubena Funeral Home of Hallettsville; with Visitation starting at 12 Noon. Officiant: Rev Whitt Meyer. Memorials: Donor's Choice. Burial: Fuller Cemetery (located on CR 132).
