Leonard Henry Marek, 83, of Hallettsville, passed away Jan. 9, 2020. He was born on Nov. 30, 1936, to Adolph F. & Hermina Muhlstein Marek in Lavaca County, Texas. He married Georgia Ann Hermis on July 13, 1968, at St. Rose Catholic Church of Schulenburg, TX. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.

Upon graduation from Hallettsville High School in 1957 Leonard took great pride in working the farm and raising pigs which he continued part time after entering the workforce. He worked for Weingarten's until their final closing. Leonard retired from Kaspar Wire Works in Shiner after 20 years of service. Leonard was a kind, soft spoken and hardworking man that was sure to greet you with a smile regardless of the situation.

Leonard was known as Husband, Dad and PoPo as well as for his various nicknames Nip, Smokey, and Smiley.

Leonard is survived by: wife Georgia; 2 daughters, Carol Dieringer & husband Sandy Joe, and Sandra Steffek & husband Chris; brother Adolph William Marek & wife Bernice; and 3 grandchildren, Dustin Dieringer, Dalton Dieringer and Tyler Steffek, all of Hallettsville.

Leonard was preceded in death by; his parents, and brother Herbert A. Marek.

Funeral Mass Service : 10 am, Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 5 pm, Monday at Kubena Funeral Home; with the Rosary starting at 7 pm. Pallbearers: Dustin Dieringer, Dalton Dieringer, Tyler Steffek, Douglas Marek, Patrick Marek, and Michael Kocurek. Officiant: Rev. Bryan Heyer. Memorials: Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Donor's choice. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
