Obituary

Leona E. Scheffer, 88, of Hallettsville, passed away Dec. 23, 2011. She was born on March 18, 1923 to Frank & Emilie Dusek Melnar in Lavaca County, Texas. She married Milton "Moon" Scheffer on March 3, 1946 at St. Peter Lutheran Church of Hallettsville. She was a member of V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, and an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.

Leona was a quiet, unassuming person who was quick to listen and slow to speak. Known as Aunt Babe, she enjoyed her family and extended family and was considered "a second mom", by many of her nieces and nephews.

Leona's hobbies included playing dominoes, cooking and baking, crocheting afghans, using her green thumb on variety of plants, camping with Moon and friends and dancing with her loving husband.

Leona is survived by: 3 sons, Wayne Scheffer & wife Carleen of San Marcos, Travis Scheffer & wife Darnell of College Station, and Kenny Scheffer of Kyle; 2 sister-in-laws, Viola Scheffer of Hallettsville, and Dorothy Melnar of Weimar; 5 grandchildren, Jason Scheffer & wife Stephanie, Ryan Scheffer & wife Elizabeth, Trey Scheffer & wife Shelly, Megan Stewart & husband Jeremy, and Kassi Scheffer; and 7 great grandchildren, Kaleb, Emily, Blake, Zak, Asher, Piper, and Addisen.

Leona was preceded in death by: her husband Moon; daughter Sandra Sue Scheffer; parents; 3 brothers, infancy, Oscar and Emil Melnar; and 4 sisters, Agnes Grunewald, Lillie Helweg, Zilfa Boethel, and Vlasta Michalcik.

Funeral Service: 2 pm, Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at St. Peter Lutheran Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Monday at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiate: Rev. Dr. Alan Williams. Pallbearers: Jason Scheffer, Ryan Scheffer, Trey Scheffer, Arnold Scheffer, Jarrod Duty, Cary Sims, and Bobby Stratmann. Memorials: St. Peter Lutheran Fellowship Hall Fund or American Cancer Society. Burial: Hallettsville City Cemetery.
