March 26, 1936 – May 26, 2011
Leona made their home in Houston and Alief, Texas. She was a housewife until all of her children were in school. Then she went to work for Alief School District as a cook. When she retired, she and Jeffery moved back to their farm in Ezzell. She loved making pig in the blankets for her family. She also loved sitting on the front porch watching the wildlife and their cattle. Her other favorite pastime was watching old westerns. She loved all of her grandchildren and was so proud of them all.
Leona is survived by: her husband Jeffery; 3 sons, Jeffery "Mike" Koonce of Dallas, Jack Koonce & wife Dede of Richmond, and Jodie Koonce of Yoakum; daughter Diane Davis & husband Bill of Hallettsville; 7 grandchildren, Melissa and Billy Davis, Jarryd, Cayley, Jace, Justin and Jacob Koonce; 4 brothers, William Kalmus & wife Betty of Seguin, Daniel Kalmus & wife Doris of Hallettsville, August Kalmus & wife Shirley of Sugarland, and Steve Kalmus & wife Patsy of Sugarland; sister Anita Jordan & husband Steve of Waco; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leona was preceded in death by: her infant son; parents; and 2 brothers, Ben and Blaise Kalmus.
Funeral Mass Service:
10 am, Monday, May 30, 2011, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Koerth, Texas.
Visitation:
4 pm, Sunday, at Kubena Funeral Home.
Rosary:
6 pm, Sunday, at Kubena Funeral Home.
Officiate:
Rev. Charles Sonnier.
Pallbearers:
Trinity Kalmus, Danny Kalmus, Gary Kalmus, Bobby Schlagater, Tommy Koonce, and Jerl Koonce.
Burial:
Koerth Catholic Cemetery.
