Obituary

Leona Buzek, 90 of Hallettsville passed away peacefully into the hands of Jesus, Thursday, January 5, 2017, surrounded in prayer by her loving family. She was born on August 3, 1926 to Joseph and Agnes Najvar Gerlich of Hallettsville. On September 4, 1950 she married Victor Buzek at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. She was a member of Christian Mothers Society, KJZT and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.

Leona is preceded in death by her husband the late Victor Buzek. Leona is survived by their nine children, Kathleen Chovanetz and husband Mike, David Buzek and wife Alva, Betty Woytek and husband Harvey, Janie Wolf and husband David, Denise Pohl and husband Leslie, Joe Buzek and wife Diane, Melissa Leita and husband Ben all of Hallettsville, Genevieve Carroll and husband Jamie of Victoria, TX and Gary Buzek and wife Jodie of Mansfield, TX. She has 20 grandchildren, Becky, Buzek, Lisa Washington, Jessica Woodring, Magan Grahmann, Allison Davis, Jeremy Buzek, Nick Pohl, Michael Pohl, Jordan Buzek, Taylor Buzek, Chelsea Carroll, Haley Carroll, Morgan Leita, Kevin Chovanetz, Carrie McDonald, Jennifer Rowley, Ryan Wolf, Allison Wolf, Jason Carroll and Aaron Wolf (deceased); and 11 great grandchildren, Konner Chovanetz, Alyssa & Dennis Washington, Lilly Woodring, Tyson & Taylor Wolf, Ashton & Trident Wolf, Jacob & Logan Wolf, and Abbey Carroll. She is survived by one sister Mary Mladenka of Bossier City, LA and one brother Joe Gerlich of Hallettsville. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lillian Laas, Alice Kainer & Bernice Twardowski, & brothers, Ben, Stanley, Vladislav (Lad), and Dan Gerlich.

Leona spent most of her life caring for others. First by being a wonderful mother to 9 children then by caring for her parents as they aged and many of her siblings that went before her and lastly her husband Victor. She worked as a nurse's aide at Steven's Nursing and Rehabilitation for over 40 years. She loved many things about life, some of her greatest past times were playing dominos and tarocks, watching the Houston Astros, wheel of fortune, Molly B Polka, and floating the Frio River as well as having her children gathered for big family get togethers.

The family would like to give a very special thank you to all of her private sitters, doctors and Hospice for their diligent care.

Funeral Mass Service: 10 am, Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Friday, at Kubena Funeral Home with Rosary at 7 pm. Pallbearer: Nick & Michael Pohl, Jeremy Buzek, Jordan Buzek, Kevin Chovanetz, Jason Carroll, Joe Paul Gerlich, Mark Gerlich. Honorary Pallbearers: Dr. Khiem Vu, Dr. William Campbell, Dr. Chelif Junor. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Memorials: St. Mary's Catholic Church, American Heart Association, Hospice of South Texas or Donor's Choice. Burial: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
