Obituary

Leon C. Steinocher Sr., 88, of Hallettsville, passed away April 12, 2015. He was born on January 28, 1927 to Charles R. & Antonia Morisak Steinocher in Hallettsville. He served in the US Army during WWII. He married Annie Lois Graham on November 11, 1947; she passed away on March 31, 1996. He remarried on September 27, 1997 to Lettie Sue Street.

Leon enjoyed a 35 year career in the oilfield industry, where he was respected and admired. He began working rigs in south Texas, leading to off-shore drilling in Louisiana and on to international off-shore drilling. He over saw the construction of the world's first semi-submersible drilling platform in Tokyo, Japan, and in 1966 he moved his family to Australia where he managed multiple off-shore rigs. In the early 1970s, his profession took him to drilling of the coast of Nova Scotia, then on to again managing multiple drilling platforms in the North Sea off the coast of Scotland.

At the age of 55, he retired from the oilfield and began his second career. He and Annie Lois came home to Hallettsville, and worked to live their retirement dream, raising black brangus cattle on the Rockin S. Nothing made Leon happier than a full day of hard work with his cattle and his mate by his side. Their family grew in include 5 grandchildren and their home was the center gathering place for family, where stories were traded, memories were shared and new ones created.

He was a hardworking man of solid character who never forgot his humble beginnings. His life exemplified integrity, selflessness and kindness. His family is blessed by the legacy he was left behind and the wisdom that he shared with us all.
