Leon Louis "Red" Kahanek III, 59, of Hallettsville, passed away April 5, 2021.  He was born on September 1, 1961, to Leon L. & Emogene Adams Kahanek Jr. in Hallettsville.

"Red" went to school in Hallettsville, and then went on to college at Sam Houston State university in Huntsville, Tx.  There he studied education to later became a school teacher and football coach.  After graduation, Red taught in many different places and had many friends he met along the way.  One of the highlights in his life was winning the football state championship in Cuero in 1987.  He loved coaching and teaching and really related to his students, his love for biology and science was very evident.

Red married Lisa Appelt in 1982 and they had one daughter, Kindell, who was the love of their lives.

Red loved riding horses and working cattle in his later years.  That became one of his favorite past times as he got older.  He also enjoyed reading and learning more about his faith.  Red had a very large collection of books that he loved to show his friends and was very proud of.

As the years went on Red resided in Hallettsville to be closer to his mom, dad, and family.

Red was a wonderful man who had many friends in all walks of life.  He always had a story to tell and he made time for everyone in his life.  He had a heart of gold and would help anyone in need.  He was just that kind of guy.  He will be missed by many.

Red is survived by:  his only daughter, Kindell Dufour and husband Damien; 2 grandchildren, Peyton and Crew of Katy, TX; brother Robert Kahanek & sister-in-law Karen, and 2 nephews, Braden & Kade Kahanek, and 1 niece Kingsley Kahanek of Hallettsville, TX.

Red was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Funeral Service (All attendees should wear a mask): 2 pm, Sunday, April 11, 2021, at Kubena Funeral Home of Hallettsville, TX. Visitation: starting at 1 pm Sunday. Memorials (in lieu of flowers): American heart association or donor's choice.
