Lelia Ann Rother Hemmi, 96, of Hallettsville, Texas, passed away peacefully at 03:10 am on Sunday November 8, 2015 at Lavaca Medical Center in Hallettsville, Texas. Lelia Ann was born July 8, 1919 to Charlie Casper and Linda Augusta Wessels Rother in Hallettsville, Lavaca County, Texas.
On a Monday morning, June 11, 1945, she married her sweetheart, Henry Gus Hemmi, at an Army chapel located at Foster Field in Victoria, Texas.
Lelia Ann was baptized in and was a life-long member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hallettsville and attended many Saturday evening worship services as often as she could until she was no longer able to.
Lelia Ann was a devoted housewife, homemaker, and Mother. She was always kind compassionate and generous to anyone she came in contact with. Lelia Ann had a heart of gold and never turned anyone down if they needed help or advice and she was always willing to lend a helping hand at any function where needed.
Lelia Ann loved to cook and sew; and in her younger days, she made many beautiful quilts by hand. She loved her many cats and dogs that she had as pets throughout her life time, her horses that she as a young girl even rode back and forth to school every day just to get an education, and especially her herd of cattle that she raised and fed at her farm on the Vsetin Farm Road just outside of Hallettsville.
She was just over all a truly beautiful caring and loving person who was admired and respected by her family and many friends in the Hallettsville area and especially by her only child her daughter Charlene Ann who had the greatest love, admiration, and respect for her by far.
Lelia Ann is survived by her daughter Charlene Ann Hemmi Guidry of Hallettsville, Texas; her brother-in-law Carl A. Hemmi of Friendswood, Texas; her two step-grandsons Rogers Paul Guidry Jr. and wife Christine Benoit Guidry and Chris Guidry, both of New Iberia, Louisiana; her four step-great-grandchildren, Michelle Lynn Guidry, Michael Paul Guidry, Christopher Joseph Guidry, and Holli Denise Guidry, all of New Iberia, Louisiana. Also surviving is her faithful and devoted friend, housekeeper, and care giver for (8) years, Cecilia (Sheila) Garza; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lelia Ann was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 48 years of marriage, Henry Gus Hemmi (deceased 10/15/1993); her son-in-law, Rogers Paul Guidry; her father Charlie Casper Rother; her mother Linda Augusta Wessels Rother; her paternal grandparents, Charlie and Emilie Rother; and her maternal grandparents, Dietrich and Annie Wessels.
Visitation will begin at 4 pm on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, with a prayer service starting at 8 pm at Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville, Texas. Visitation will resume on Thursday November 12, 2015 from 7 am until 12:45 pm at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm on Thursday, November 12, 2015, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hallettsville, Texas, with Pastor Andy Taylor and assisting minister Pastor Herb C. Beyer Jr., officiating. Graveside services and internment will follow at Hallettsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Kuhn, Eugene Garza, Chris Guidry, Rogers Paul Guidry Jr., Peter Green, and Michael Veit. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be William Todd Crisman, and step-great grandchildren, Michelle Lynn Guidry, Michael Paul Guidry, Christopher Joseph Guidry and Holli Denise Guidry.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church, or to donors' choice.
