Obituary

Lela Olga Buss Cook, 93, of Speaks, Texas, passed away November 16, 2015. She was born on April 4, 1922 to Theodore & Clara Kaelke Buss. She married Philip I. Cook on June 27, 1942 in Hallettsville, TX.

Lela enjoyed sewing and cooking. On Halloween she would bake fresh chocolate chip cookies for the trick or treaters and could bake the fluffiest bread. After Philip retired she loved to go out dancing with him on Saturday nights at Slovacek's Ballroom. She also loved deer hunting season, where she would go on family hunting trips to the Valley.

Lela is survived by: 1 son Paul Cook & wife Rusty Lynn of Speaks; 2 Grandchildren Donna Chumchal & husband Charles of Yoakum and Sarah Hill & husband Shawn of Speaks; 3 Great-Grandchildren Tory Chumchal of Austin, Texas, Derek Chumchal of Yoakum, and Abigail Hill of Speaks; 1 sister Estelle Hill & husband Walter of Kennedy, Texas.

Lela was preceded in death by: husband; parents; daughter Bonnie Hagan; infant son Ted; and 2 brothers Paulie and Archie Buss.

Funeral Service : 10 am, Thursday, November 19, 2015, at Kubena Funeral Home of Hallettsville. Visitation: 5 pm, Wednesday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiant : Pastor Walter W. Hill III. Pallbearers: Shawn Hill, Derek Chumchal, Jim Fenner, Bruce Hill, Mike Morton, and Charles New. Honorary Pallbearers : Dr. James Drost, Ernest New, Carl New. Memorials (in lieu of flowers): Charity of Your Choice. Burial: Speaks Cemetery.
