Lavern Koenning Tupa

Lavern Koenning Tupa, age 92, of Katy, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in Katy Texas, on June 27, 2026, after an extended illness. She was born to Emma Vyvial Koenning & Walter Hugo Koenning on October 24, 1933. She was raised in Breslau, Texas, on a farm and moved to Houston, Texas, around the age of 12.

Lavern attended Reagan High School in the Heights area and excelled in academics and Volleyball. One of her first jobs was with Sears in accounting before she went to work at Southern State Bank in South Houston where she would eventually become assistant Vice-President. She was there for many years before moving to Bank of Pasadena where she was Vice-President. This bank eventually became Texas Commerce Bank then JP Morgan Chase, where she worked in Downtown Houston in the Chase Tower before retiring.

Lavern married the love of her life Jerome Tupa on November 27, 1954. She loved to travel with her favorite destinations being Estes Park Colorado, the islands of Hawaii and Walt Disney World in Florida. She had a passion for the slots and enjoyed time in Las Vegas and Lake Charles.

Lavern is survived by: her husband of 71 years Jerome Tupa; daughters, Sheryl Dixon and Darleen Pfeffer (Arleigh); son Troy Tupa (Monte); grandson Jason Dixon; granddaughter Nicole Dukes (Shawn); and great grandchildren, Zackary Dukes, Connor Dukes, Nathan Dixon, Jaxon Dixon and Kaitlin Dixon.

Lavern is preceded in death by both her parents Emma Vyvial Koenning & Walter Hugo Koenning, as well as her brother Archie Koenning.

Funeral Mass Service: 11 am, Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Moravia, Texas, with Visitation starting at 10 am. Officiant: Rev. Christopher Bediako. Memorials (in lieu of flowers): Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church, St Mary's Catholic Church of Hallettsville or Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Burial: Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery.
