Obituary

LaJoyce Cervenka, 75, of Hallettsville, passed away September 16, 2009. She was born on July 22, 1934 to Otto G. & Belle Passmore Hoegemeyer in Nixon. Due to her father's working for the railroad, as a child she moved from Nixon , Cuero, Hallettsville, Edna, and finally back to Hallettsville, where she graduated from Hallettsville High School in 1951. After graduation she began work at Renger Clinic as a Laboratory/X-ray Technician. She worked there many years until it closed, and then worked at Lavaca Medical Center until she retired.

LaJoyce married George Cervenka on December 7, 1957 at the First United Methodist Church in Hallettsville. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2007 at the same church. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hallettsville.

All the grandchildren loved to come to grandma for her special treats. She was the very best mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She always had a smile on her face and something nice to say. She will be missed dearly.

LaJoyce is survived by: 2 sons, George T. "Bubba" Cervenka Jr. & wife Karen, and Otto Cervenka & wife Janet; daughter Joyce "Missy" Cervenka, all of Hallettsville; and 6 grandchildren, Hannah (14), Rachel (11), Garrett (11), Caleb (9), Jarrod (6), and Lauren (5) Cervenka. She also had a special honorary daughter, Joyce Pesek Hermes. She was also proud to have Noah Joseph Hermes as an honorary grandson, and he loved to come see grandma C.

LaJoyce was preceded in death by: her husband George on September 7, 2008; and her parents.

Funeral Service: 2 pm, Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009 at First United Methodist Church. Visitation: 2 pm, Saturday, at Kubena Funeral Home with the family receiving visitors from 5pm to 7pm. Officiate: Rev. Lundy Hooten. Pallbearers: Harold Frank Jr., Charles Sklar, Rick Rose, Tom Hermes, Lonnie Varner, and Sonny Rigsby. Honorary Pallbearers: Jimmy Bucek, Robert Pesek, Harold Frank Sr., Guthrie Sklar, and David King. Memorials: First United Methodist Church of Hallettsville. Burial: Hallettsville City Cemetery.
