Obituary

Judith Tupa Ohnheiser, 82, of Hallettsville, passed away July 22, 2009. She was born on July 25, 1926 to Joe & Jamie Orsak Tupa in Moravia, TX. She married Raymond F. Ohnheiser on January 29, 1945 at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Moravia, Texas. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.

Judy's culinary skills were evident every time she stepped into the kitchen. She was an excellent cook and baker. Canning season was one of her favorite times; as she would spend many summer days canning with her mother. She also spent many hours quilting with her mother. Together they designed many beautiful quilts, which were either donated to Sacred Heart Parish Picnics or given as gifts for special occasions. Needlework was one of her favorite hobbies and she would spend many hours stitching beautiful patterns.

In 1980, Judith was diagnosed with a massive brain tumor and underwent surgery. Ninety percent of the tumor was removed and she was only expected to live an additional five years. We were blessed to have her with us for 29 more years. She was our miracle and her compassionate spirit will live on in our memories of her as we celebrate her life.

Judith is survived by: son Benjamin R. Ohnheiser & wife Rosemary of Houston; 2 daughters, Jocelyn May & husband John of Cypress, and Lisa Shimek & husband Paul of Hallettsville; brother Henry Tupa of Houston; 3 sisters, Sylvia Steffek of Hallettsville, Wilma Schaefer of San Antonio, and Angie Winkler of La Grange; 6 grandchildren, Barry Ohnheiser, Christine Okruhlik, Russell May, Kelly Ohnheiser, Hope Shimek, and Seth Shimek; and 5 great grandchildren.
