Obituary

Joyce Lee Thomas, 95, of Hallettsville, passed away March 27, 2015, with her family by her side. She was born on October 29, 1919 to William G. & Maude Zumwalt Miller in Hallettsville.

Joyce was raised in Hallettsville, and graduated from Hallettsville High School. She married Richard (Dick) Thomas on October 20, 1939, and lived most of her adult life in Houston, TX, and Clear Lake, TX, with her husband/best friend.

Joyce and Dick had no children, but they thoroughly enjoyed their involvement in the lives of their nieces and nephews – spoiling them with boat rides, shopping trips, amusement parks and being there for Christmas morning as well.

Joyce loved to be with family and friends – laughing, playing games, making jokes and just having a good time. She was generous, loving and happy; always a joy to be around! She maintained her sense of humor all the way to the end. She never complained and was very grateful for anything that anyone did for her. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hallettsville and actively participated in the Alma Circle group.

Joyce is survived by: her sister Dixie Ruth Gifford of Midland, TX; and nieces & nephews, Sandy & Tom Crider, Curtis Gifford, Larry Gifford, JoAnn & Chuck Sadler, Billy Burt Miller, George Edward Tones, Ralph Tones, Dennis Tones, Donald Tones and Paul Tones, along with countless other friends and family.

Joyce was preceded in death by: her husband Richard (April 30, 1989); parents; 2 brothers, Edward and Thomas Miller; and 2 sisters, Billie Jo Tones and Wilma Kleck.

Joyce blessed every life she touched by her smile, loving heart, generosity, and she will forever be remembered by all that knew her.
