Obituary

Josephine A. Janak, 77, of Hallettsville, passed away Feb. 8, 2012. She was born on Sept. 22, 1934 to Albert V. & Frances Kresta Klekar in Lavaca County, Texas, being one of eight children.

Josephine met her one love and best friend at a dance at Wied Hall. She married him on October 9, 1954, at St. Mary's. Four days later August transferred to England to complete his enlistment. She joined him four months later and they stayed in England for a year and a half. They shared many beautiful years together, having been blessed with two children, Cheryl Pavliska and Chris Janak. Their marriage served as an example of true and unconditional love. They celebrated their 50th Anniversary in October, 2004.

After their thirty four years in Houston, they retired to the country near Hallettsville. Everyone in the community will remember Josephine and August's commitment and many hours spent as the Knights of Columbus Hall managers for ten plus years.

Josephine's pride and joy were her grandchildren – Claire, Erica and Katherine Pavliska, and Megan, John and Christopher Janak. She especially loved cooking for them – kolaches, homemade noodle soup, mashed potatoes, peaches, and M&M cookies – their favorites. She was blessed to have them but not nearly as much as they were incredibly blessed to have her.

She loved her Czech music and loved to dance with her lifetime partner, August. They attended many picnics and were seen twirling to the polkas and waltzes. Her hobbies included crocheting, quilting, embroidery, gardening and bunko. She served as treasurer of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #230 and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, K.J.Z.T., and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.

During her last days she loved and appreciated the many prayers, calls and visits from family and friends and especially her time with Father John. After her long brave battle with melanoma, she went home to her Lord.

Josephine is survived by: husband Gus; son Chris Janak of Victoria; daughter Cheryl Pavliska & husband Chuck of Hallettsville; 2 brothers, Daniel Klekar of Hallettsville, and August Klekar of Rockdale; sister Mildred Christ of Hallettsville; and 6 grandchildren.

Josephine was preceded in death by: parents; 3 brothers, Leon, Alphonse and Albert Klekar; and sister Lucy Henke.

Josephine will always be remembered for her "beautiful smile". Whatever she did, it was always done with a loving and caring heart. She was God's gift to us all!
