Obituary

Johnnye A. Barrera Sr., 78, of Hallettsville, passed away Aug. 21, 2012. He was born on May 6, 1934 to Guadalupe & Otilia Gutierrez Barrera Sr. in Sweet Home, Texas. He married Corinne Ratcliff on June 2, 1958 in Clarksville, Tennessee. He served active duty in the US Army from 1956 to 1958, with the 101st Airborne Division "Screaming Eagle". He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.

Johnnye is survived by: son John Barrera Jr. of Houston; 2 daughters, Sandra Garza & husband Thomas of Baton Rouge, LA, and Molly Brown & husband John of Houston; 4 brothers, Joe Barrera of Hallettsville, Norbert Barrera of Schulenburg, Lanch Barrera of Dallas, and Ben Barrera of Utah; 3 sisters, Minnie Rollins of Weimar, Genoveva DeLaRosa of Hallettsville, and Josie Reynolds of Hallettsville; 3 grandchildren, Kris & Derek Brown and Tommy Garza; and 4 great grandchildren, Hallie, Taya, Maya, and Kelci Brown.

Johnnye was preceded in death by: his wife Corinne; granddaughter Courtney Anne Garza; and 2 brothers, Lupe and Andrew Barrera.

Funeral Mass Service: 2 pm, Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Friday at Kubena Funeral Home. Rosary: 7 pm, Friday at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiate: Rev. John Peters. Pallbearers: Larry Nordstand, Raymond Rollins, Allan Rollins, Albert Gutierrez, Guy Gardner, and David Barrera. Honorary Pallbearers: Tim Barrera, Tommy Garza, Kris Brown, and Derek Brown. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Memorials: The Wounded Warrior Project.
