John Alvin Thompson, 69, of Hallettsville, went to his heavenly home July 5, 2022, surrounded by his family after a twenty-one-year battle with brain cancer. He was truly a fighter till the end. He was born on June 7, 1953, to R.L. & Doris Dover Thompson in Sinton, TX. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hallettsville.
John graduated from Carrizo Springs High School. Afterwards he started work in the oil field until his early retirement due to his illness. John and Cindy Garrett Thompson were married January 4, 1977, in Big Wells, Texas. To this union were born three sons.
John loved God, his family, and his friends, in that order. His grandchildren were the light of his life, who adored their PaPa as well. They always knew who to go to for ice cream. He was known for his beautiful singing voice and musical abilities, which he instilled in his three sons. He was very proud of the musicians they have become and was always their biggest fan. He will always be known for his infectious laugh.
John is survived by: Cindy, his wife of 45 years; his sons, Brandon (Beverly), Justin (Lauren), and Ryan (Devyn); 19 grandchildren; his sisters, Linda Thompson, and Brenda Wilmarth; his mother-in-law Jimmie Garrett; sister-in-law Penny Williamson (Duane); and numerous nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by; his parents, grandparents, his brother Robert Thompson, and his father-in-law Bob Garrett.
Memorial Funeral services : 2 pm, Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville; Visitation starting at 1 pm. Officiant: Brother Johnny Solansky. Memorials: Hospice of South Texas, First Baptist Church of Hallettsville or Donor's Choice. A private burial will take place at a later date.
