John P. Pustka, 77, of Wied, passed away June 30, 2009 at home. He was born on April 29, 1932 to Matt & Amalia Netardus Pustka Sr. He married Virginia Grahmann Pustka on April 29, 1961 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. John served in the US Army during the Korean War, and received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, and National Defense Service Medal. John was a member of K.J.T. of Wied, Knight of Columbus in Hallettsville, V.F.W. in Shiner, American Legion in Hallettsville, and Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner.

John is survived by: his wife Virginia; son Robert "Skeeter" Pustka & wife Debbie of Wied; 3 daughters, Jane Labay & husband Duane of Hallettsville, Rebecca Till & husband Michael of Wied, and Karen "Shorty" Pustka of Victoria; 3 brothers, Victor Pustka of Shiner, Matt Pustka Jr. of Shiner, and Joe Pustka of Victoria; 3 sisters, Molly Peters of Shiner, Mary Ann Stock of Shiner, and Helen Motal of Hallettsville; and 4 grandchildren, Jessica and Hillary Pustka, and Amber and Derrick Labay.

John was preceded in death by: his parents; 3 brothers, Bernard Sr., Pete P., and Paul J. Pustka; and sister Julia Marie Pustka.

Service: 10 am, Friday, July 3, 2009 at Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner. Visitation: 3 pm, Thursday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Rosary: 7 pm, Thursday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. Pallbearers: Russell Janak, Daryl Peters, Daniel "JR" Peters Jr., Matthew Motal, James Pustka, and Patrick Hanslik. Honorary Pallbearers: Leo Pustka, Thomas Pustka, and Bernard Pustka Jr. Officiates: Rev. John Peters, Rev. Bob Knippenberg and Rev. Tommy Chen. Memorials: Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church & School, Sacred Heart Catholic Church & School, or St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial: St. Ludmila Catholic Cemetery.
