Obituary

Jeannette Patricia Jahn, affectionately known as "Jettie", passed peacefully at home in Hallettsville, Texas, on December 11, 2024, at the age of 86.  Jettie lived a full and joyful life marked by faith, family and a love of travel.

Jettie was born on February 12, 1938, in Shiner, Texas.  Sometime in the early 1950's, the family moved from Shiner to Hallettsville, where she went on to become a proud 1956 graduate of Hallettsville High (go Brahmas!).  She then attended and earned her college degree from Southwest Texas State University (go Bobcats!) in 1960 and, for the next 30 years, was proud to educate the children of Houston, Kerrville, San Antonio and, for 18 months, Columbia, Missouri.

In 1992, Jettie ended her first career as educator and moved back to her home in Hallettsville.  Retirement for her meant a second career – a full-time search for all things antique.  She and Nettie (and Jimmie and Nettie's husband Wayne Krupala) scoured the entirety of the US – from east coast to west - hunting rare and beautiful artifacts from bygone eras.  Alas, only to pass them on to less adventurous collectors at shows like The Original Round Top Antiques Fair where, in The Big Red Barn, Jettie and Nettie peddled their goods under the Cricket's Corner banner.

When they weren't buying and selling antiquities, Jettie and Nettie (again with Jimmie and Wayne) traveled across America in one of many, many, many RVs.  Countless road trips - to Vallecito in Colorado, Patrick's Point in California (and a thousand other places off the beaten path) - were a treasure throughout her life and they all started with a loud and boisterous rendition of Willie Nelson's "On the Road, Again".

Jettie also loved spending time with her grandchildren and, very recently, her great-grandchildren, teaching them to be kind and caring people (without them ever even realizing it).  She had long mastered the technique of "Put someone in charge of something and sit back and watch them proudly achieve".

Jettie is survived by:  her devoted husband Jimmie; sons, Michael and Brian (wife Brandy); sister Barbara (husband Wayne); brothers, David, Robert, Jerome (wife Gwen), Donald (wife Linda) and Carl (wife Debbie); 3 grandchildren (Kevin, Keith & Molly); and two great-grandchildren (Max & Levi).

Jette is preceded in death by her parents Jerome and Alice, her twin sister Annette (Nettie), and brother James.
