Obituary

James Howard Brooks, 90, of Sublime, TX, passed away on July 30, 2020.  He was born in Sublime on September 13, 1929.  He graduated from Hallettsville High School in 1947.  He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1951 to 1953, and then later was a part of the United States Marine Corp Reserve from 1953 to 1959.

James retired from Alcoa in 1985 after 30 years of service and became a full-time rancher.  He enjoyed the outdoors.  Deer hunting and baling hay were his favorites.  Many fun times were spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.  He also enjoyed playing dominoes, camping, and listening to bluegrass music.

James is survived by:  his wife of 66 years, Antonia "Tonie" Brooks; children, Debbie (Tommy) Parks and Howard (Sherilyn) Brooks; grandchildren, Marisa Parks, Ryan Brooks, Spencer Parks, and Kristen Reininger; great-grandchildren, Ava Brooks and Allie Brooks; sister Esther Castellow; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by:  his parents Clark and Esther Brooks; sisters, Johnnie Aldis and Jannie Pustejovsky; brother Raymond Brooks; and half-brother Bill Hartt.

Funeral Mass Service (All attendees must wear masks): 10 am, Monday, August 3, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville; with Rosary starting at 9:30 am; and Visitation stating at 9 am. Pallbearers: Tommy Parks, Ryan Brooks, Spencer Parks, Harvey Schoener, Mark Sitka, and Ralph Aldis. Honorary Pallbearers: Matthew Schoener, Brian Sitka, Chris Sitka, BJ Sitka, and Larry Koerth. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Memorials (in lieu of flowers): Sacred Heart School or Donor's Choice. Entombment: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
