Obituary

James N. Bozka, 83, of Hallettsville, passed away Aug. 3, 2010. He was born on Dec. 25, 1926 to M. I. & Henrietta Kopecky Bozka in Shiner, Texas.

Jim began his professional career as a Banker in May 1943. He then served his country from Dec. 1944 to July 1946 in the US Navy during WWII. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1950. He began his career as a teller/bookkeeper and worked his way up to president of Peoples State Bank of Hallettsville, from July 1967 to Jan. 1992, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Peoples State Bank. He supported this community by promoting small businesses, agriculture, youth and local organizations.

Jim was a charter member of the Hallettsville Industrial Corporation, and in 1993, he received the Service Award for 25 years of loyal and dedicated service. In 1995 he was named Citizen of the Year by the Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture.

Jim supported the youth of the community. He was willing to contribute to the support of the local schools. On numerous occasions he presented programs for school children on his travels and experiences. He participated in the Hallettsville Jr. Livestock Show, Little League Association, Friench Simpson Memorial Library, and Lavaca Historical Museum.

Jim was a member and past president of the Rotary Club and director of the Renger Hospital. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, the Gulf Coast Conservation Association, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.

Jim enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, displaying his trophies in the bank. When not at the bank, Jim could be found at the ranch accompanied by his dog, "Jack Russell".

Jim is survived by: 3 sisters-in-law, Vernell Bozka of Hallettsville, Virginia Bozka of Hallettsville, and Ruby Ann Bozka of Pearland, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by: his parents; 3 brothers, Matt J. Bozka, Bill D. Bozka, and Carl A. Bozka; and sister Mary Kathryn Fischner.

Funeral Mass Service: 10 am, Saturday, August 7, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation: 3 pm, Friday at Kubena Funeral Home. Rosaries: 7 pm, Friday at Kubena Funeral Home; and 9:30 am, Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Officiate: Rev. John Peters. Pallbearers: Kris Ford, James Migl, Justin Henke, Kyle Henke, Cody Henke, Zachary Bujnoch, Clayton Chaney, and Jessie Bozka. Honorary Pallbearers: The remaining nieces and nephews. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Memorials: The Williamsburg House Inc., Hospice of South Texas, or Donor's Choice.
