IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jack Warren
Crandall
December 12, 1967 – February 7, 2016
Jack Warren Crandall, 48, of Hallettsville, passed away Feb. 7, 2016. He was born on Dec. 12, 1967, to Dr. William & Rubie "Cookie" Guthrie Crandall in Hallettsville.
Jack was truly a "Jack-of-all trades". He loved his Sacred Heart Indians and Tri=County Babe Ruth Baseball and spent many hours doing stats, researching other teams, and any other thing he thought of that might help his team win. Always willing to help his fellow athletes any way he could. He could recall games from past years and remember what occurred, cite stats, and any other thing that may have happened. He was also an expert marksman. On one of the renewal CHL tests his instructor kept the target where he did the practice shooting. There was only one hole after 7 or 8 shots.
Jack was an avid reader and a real history buff. At Sam Houston State he always took a history course of some kind along with his biology major and chemistry minor. When he was young he would read the encyclopedia and loved World War II books, as well as the Civil War. He was knowledgeable in a variety of areas, with a remarkable memory. Computers were another area he excelled in, he could do almost anything on one. Jack had a wealth of artistic talent. He has an extensive collection of model airplanes that he assembled and painted with the correct color codes and insignia. Whatever he set his mind to do, he could and would do it. He made small cards with the plays for the baseball players to use on their arm bands. Very intricate work and he'd sit for hours perfecting the color code using his computer.
Babe Ruth Baseball was another passion of his. He was one of the coaches for a number of years. He and his parents would travel to the tournaments and to the regional tournaments and if the team was lucky and won their regional game, they would travel to the World Series. He attended two in Newark, Ohio. The last World Series he attended was in Washington State in 2014. He had just been diagnosed with cancer in January and was doing chemo at the time. His doctor gave him a reprieve for a couple of weeks so he could attend. He enjoyed the trip and he and a fellow coach drove to Seattle to watch a game and toured Grand Coulee Dam.
After he was diagnosed last August with brain tumors, he seemed to take a downward spiral. After radiation treatments were completed, the doctors experimented with a two new drugs for the liver which had adverse effects. The liver just could not recuperate and he was admitted to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston on Feb. 2.
Jack was looking forward to the spring baseball season and making plans for another Babe Ruth baseball season, hoping to make the World Series again.
Jack is survived by his parents. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
