IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Isabelle
Belcik
July 2, 1921 – January 20, 2019
Isabelle Mary Belcik, 97, of Hallettsville, passed away on January 20, 2019. She was born on July 2, 1921 to Henry Herman and Emilie Mozisek Huehlefeld in Pilot Grove. She was the first of five children. She graduated from Saint Joseph Catholic School in Yoakum in 1939.
Isabelle married Edward "Eddie" Joseph Belcik on January 3, 1950 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Sweet Home. Together they raised one son, Patrick James Belcik.
Isabelle was a member of the VFW Auxiliary of Hallettsville, American Legion Auxiliary of Sweet Home and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Koerth.
After high school, Isabelle worked at Tex Tan in Yoakum hand tooling leather. However, she spent most of her life as a homemaker on the farm between Williamsburg and Koerth. She worked alongside Eddie growing and picking cotton, corn and tomatoes and tending to the cattle, hogs and chickens. She also worked in the garden and enjoyed cooking and canning the produce they grew, as well as baking pies, cakes and cookies.
Throughout her life, Isabelle enjoyed visiting with her many friends and family members. She loved to talk, whether in person or on the dining room phone. She also loved dancing and listening to polka music. Anytime there was a polka show playing on one of the surrounding radio stations, the kitchen radio would be tuned in. She also went to the surrounding church picnics to socialize with friends, dance and play bingo. She especially enjoyed playing bingo and dominoes and did so until her last days.
After her grandchildren, Christopher and David Belcik, were born, she loved caring for them. She taught them how to play bingo, dominoes and checkers and always let them win. She also played hide-and-seek and baseball with them and went looking for them when they were out exploring the pasture too long.
When Eddie's health began to fail, Isabelle cared for him until she no longer could. Then they both moved to Stevens Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Hallettsville where she spent the last ten years. There she made many new friends and participated in activities like the Valentine's Queen pageants and Kolache Fest parades. She looked forward to Sundays, when Patrick would pick her up to check on cattle or hay patches and eat lunch with the family.
Recently, the birth of her great grandson, Klein James Belcik, in September brought her great joy, and she always asked how he was doing even as she struggled with her own health issues. Her kindness and compassion for others will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched.
Isabelle is survived by: her son Patrick Belcik & wife Patricia of Hallettsville; sister Loretta Raska; 2 grandchildren, Christopher Belcik, and David Belcik & wife Tamara; and great grandchild Klein Belcik.
Isabelle was preceded in death by: her husband Eddie; parents; 2 brothers, Boniface & James Huehlefeld; and sister Henrietta Bessire.
Thank you to the staff at Stevens Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for caring for Isabelle these past ten years.
