Obituary

Irene Elizabeth Barton, 84, of Yoakum, was born on September 28, 1934 to Julius and Helen (Woitaske) Grahmann at the home place in Hallettsville, Texas. She entered her heavenly home on Sunday, June 30, 2019, and joined her beloved husband Benedict Joseph Barton. Irene graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in 1953. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Koerth and attended Mass regularly at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Sweet Home. She was also a member of the KJZT and Christian Mothers.

Irene was a devout Catholic whose life was centered around her faith and family. She loved spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking for her family and friends. Her prayer life was devoted to the Blessed Mother and the Holy Rosary.

Irene is survived by: her seven children, John (Ruth) Barton of Hallettsville, Mark Barton of Yoakum, Joan Barton of Yoakum, Rose (Gerald) Koehl of Columbus, James (Bonnie) Barton of Richmond, Jeffery (Valerie) Barton of Victoria, Lorie (Robin) Drummond of Hallettsville; her 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her siblings, Francis Hanslik, Gertrude Janak, Andrew Grahmann, and Mary Bruening.

Irene was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband Benedict; her grandchildren, Sarah Barton and Benedict Barton; her siblings Thelma Spies, Viola Grahmann, Virginia Pustka, and David Grahmann; and numerous in-laws.

Funeral Mass Service : 10 am, Thursday, July 4, 2019, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church of Sweet Home. Visitation: 4 pm – 5 pm, Wednesday at Kubena Funeral Home; with the Rosary starting at 7 pm at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Pallbearers: Phillip Barton, Nicholas Barton, Jacob Barton, Kevin Koehl, Dillon Barton, Andrew Barton, and Brett Barton. Officiant: Rev. Dominic Antwi-Boasiako. Memorials: St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Koerth, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Sweet Home, Hospice of South Texas or Donor's choice. Burial: Koerth Catholic Cemetery.
