Obituary

Iona Gray, 92, of Hallettsville, passed away Jan. 11, 2011. She was born on April 7, 1918 to Mike J. & Alma Bonorden Brocker Sr. in Lavaca County, Texas. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Hallettsville.

Iona married George Brown and had a son, Danny Ray Brown. Later in life, she married William "Bill" Gray on Mar. 12, 1946 in Hallettsville. Bill worked in the oilfield business, and they had 2 sons, Gary and Ronald Gray. Iona and Bill left the oilfield and worked to open their own business, "The Dairy Hart". They worked there until 1966, when Bill passed away. Iona continued to run the business for many years, making the most famous burgers in Hallettsville. She retired from the restaurant a few years after the 1981 flood. Her days were spent living a quiet life at home tending the flowers and enjoying life.

Iona is survived by: 3 sons, Danny R. Brown & wife Bernice of Rosenberg, Gary Gray & wife Kathy of Hallettsville, and Ronnie Gray of Gonzales; brother Mike J. Brocker Jr. of Hallettsville; 6 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

Iona was preceded in death by: her husband Bill; parents; and 2 sisters, Alma "Tooter" Appelt, and Josephine Dennison.

Funeral Service: 10 am, Friday, Jan. 14, 2011 at Kubena Funeral Home. Visitation: 4pm, Thursday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiate: Rev. Dr. Alan Williams. Pallbearers: Jason Basut, Gregory Gray, Larry Appelt, Billy Clegg, Darryl Brocker, and Richard Appelt. Burial: Hallettsville City Cemetery. Memorials: St. Peter Lutheran Church of Hallettsville.
