Obituary

Hubert W. Webb, 82, of Hallettsville, passed away April 17, 2013. He was born on Jan. 18, 1931 to Lawrence & Laura Woodyard Webb in Jasper County, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm with his Mother, maternal grandparents and two sisters. He loved working side by side with his grandfather who he considered the greatest man he had ever known. His grandfather taught him that hard work, honesty and respect were keys to success; an example he shared with others by his own examples of living.

As a young man, he and a cousin headed to a local dance one evening where he spied across the room a beautiful young lady. He turned to his cousin and said I am going to marry that girl someday. He was right, on July 3rd 1954 he and Mary Lou Janssen were married.

Growing up and after graduating high school he worked a variety of local jobs until he found his place as a truck driver and later a dispatcher for Sunoco (DX back then) in Des Moines, IA. In 1975 Sun Oil Co offered him a position as a pipeliner in White Oak, TX. Corrosion Technology, a new field, was rapidly growing and they soon asked if he would go back to school to advance his career; which then took him on to Lumberton, TX.

Warren and Lou (as they were called) had 5 children and their spouses Dan and Gayle Webb of St. Louis, MO; Vicki & Curtis Sparks of Montezuma, IA; James and Sylvia Webb of Victoria, TX; Brian and Susan Webb of Maysville, OK; and Theresa and Kenneth Butschek of Hallettsville, TX.

He and Lou were blessed with 21 grandchildren; Kohryn Webb & Dustin Tierney, Ben Webb; April & Brent Mintle, Angela & Marcus Ramirez, Asa and Ali Sparks; Eddie Cisneros and Angela Webb; Matthew & Megan Webb, Michael & Rikki Webb; Christopher & Mita Butschek, Katherine & Luke Osterhus, Kimberly Butschek, Stephanie Butschek.

The blessing grew with great grandchildren Maddeline, Miles, Maxwell and Matthew Mintle; Brienna Hurst and 3 yet to arrive in May and July. Family was his greatest pride and joy.

Warren and Lou spent many years enjoying life and retirement.  Camping (4 motorhomes), boating and fishing all over east Texas and 4 times in Alaska. They had the most wonderful adventures together and shared them with their children and grandchildren either first hand and through stories and pictures and more stories.

He also became quite a woodworker piddling with the Diamond Willow they brought home from Alaska. Creating countless gifts for family and friends until he finally began to run out of Diamond Willow. He loved how the diamonds would take on unique shapes and images. Probably the one thing he made the most of was canes since he had a tendency to unknowingly leave them behind for others to enjoy. LOL

He was preceded in death by his parents Laura Goodman and Lawrence Webb and his loving wife of nearly 52 years Mary Lou.

He will be lovingly missed by all but we are all happy that he will finally be reunited with the love of his life, Mary Lou.
