Obituary

Hubert Janak departed this life on October 5, 2016, at the age of 73. He was born in Hallettsville, Texas, raised in Sweet Home and resided with his immediate family in Mont, Texas. He was actively involved in the surrounding communities as a member of the Knights of Columbus #2433, American Legion Post 230 as a veteran of the National Guard, K.J.T. and a parishioner of Queen of Peace Church in Sweet Home.

Hubert was a prominent figure in the Czech-German Polka community and played music all his life with many known local musicians—starting with the Hubert Janak & His Polka Boys, the City Polka Boys, and many years with the Tony Janak Band, and finally as long as he could play and sing with the J&S Playboys.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth Jurek Janak, and three children; Monica Janak, Patricia Redding (Brent), and Dennis Janak; grandchildren whom he dearly loved, Maryssa, Justin, Travis, and Katie Redding; sister Margaret Bludau (Bill); and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Proceeded in death by: his parents, Eddie and Georgie Janak; in-laws, Arnold and Lydia Jurek; Brother-in-law, Ron Humphries; Sister-in-law, Claudine Jurek Lewis; and nephew, Kenny Lewis.

Funeral Mass Service: 10 am, Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church of Sweet Home. Visitation: 5 pm, Friday, at Kubena Funeral Home with Rosary starting at7 pm. Pallbearers: Billy Bludau, Tom Bludau, Ronnie Bludau, Donnie Bludau, Michael Dierschke, and Troy Macha. Honorary Pallbearers: J.R. Humphries, Ben Svetlik, Amanda Jurek, Harry Macik, Daniel Melnar, Gus Janak, and all musicians. Officiant: Rev. Matthew Huehlefeld.
