IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hubert Carl
Grahmann
November 3, 1925 – June 26, 2012
Dad and Mom used to go dancing and they loved to listen to polka music. After church, on Sundays, we would go 'bummin' riding through the country side listening to polka music until it was time to go home for lunch. Dad worked hard all his life and instilled the same values in his kids with familiar sayings like "give an honest day's work for an honest day's pay" and " if you borrowed something return it in better shape than what you got it".
The grandkids and in-laws soon learned if you had to work with dad that there was the right way, wrong way, and The Grahmann Way. He was also known for his impatience and would tell us "you couldn't pour piss out of a boot if the directions were written on the heel". Dad was a good domino player and just this past January, we didn't think he would remember how to play, but not only could he still play, he beat us all.
As the grandkids came along Popo did mellow some. He used to give the kids rides on the tractor. After that they learned how to drive and started helping Popo feed cows. As time progressed, those rides became rides on the front of his electric scooter. Ross and Popo have had a couple of wheelchair races with Ross winning every time (newer model). He went from hooking his grandkids with his cane to grabbing them with a reacher when they would try to get past him.
He used to con Grandma by getting a grandkid to ask for two Oreo cookies (one for the grandkid and one for grandpa). He loved to pull the girls ponytails and sing the polka songs 'Horsey Keep your Tail Up- Keep the Sun Out of My Eyes'. He would grab us on the knee and show us how the "horse ate the corn." He was a wheel watcher and watched Wheel of Fortune faithfully.
He enjoyed homemade bread, butter, and strawberry jelly, that was one of the few things he would still eat. Praying the rosary was an everyday thing for Dad and Mom in their 60 years of marriage and one of the few things in the end that gave him comfort. He was loved dearly and will be missed.
