Obituary

Howard Allan Evans, Sr., 75, of Hallettsville, died December 7, 2008. He was born in Lavaca County on April 30, 1933 to James Evans and Ella York Evans. He married Anna Ruth Munson on August 29, 1953 in Hope, Texas. He graduated from Hitchcock High School in 1952 and was all state in football in 1951-52. He served in the US Army and received an honorable discharge in September, 1955. He was a welder at Amoco Gas Company for 36 years. He was a scout master for 10 years, volunteer firefighter in Hitchcock for 25 years, coached little league football and baseball. He served on the Board of Trustees for Hope United Methodist Church and Salem Cemetery Association.

Allan was always available to lend a helping hand to family and friends. He loved hunting, tending to his cattle, reading a good western, gardening and riding around in his jeep checking on the neighbors. But his top priority was always his family. His total devotion to his wife, children and grandchildren was apparent to all who knew him.

Allan is survived by: wife Anna Ruth of 55 years; daughter Carol Evans of Austin; 3 sons, Jim Evans & wife Pam of Santa Fe, Howard Evans Jr. & wife Tara of San Antonio, and Andy Evans of Hallettsville; 9 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Allan was preceded in death by: his parents; step-father Alpha Omega Logan; a baby son; brother James William Evans; and 2 sisters Joyce Marie Evans and Emma Jean Evans.

Service: 2 pm, Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at Kubena Funeral Home. Visitation: 1 pm, Wednesday, at Kubena Funeral Home; with the family receiving visitors from 6 pm to 8 pm Wednesday. Pallbearers: Richard Wills, David Rice, Shannon Rice, BJ Rice, Charlie Munson, Ray Castell, Austin Evans, Jason Cox, and Brandon Cox. Honorary Pallbearers: Too many to name. Burial: Salem Cemetery. Officiate: Rev. Phillip Steinbach. Memorials: Hope United Methodist Church, Hope Community Center, or Mossy Grove United Methodist Church.
