Obituary

Herman H. Sciba, 98, of Hallettsville, passed away October 8, 2010. He was born on October 22, 1911 to Rudolph & Julia Kutach Sciba in Hallettsville. He married Frances Holik Sciba on October 4, 1937 at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Moravia, Texas. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church near Hallettsville.

Herman and Frances spent their life in Witting, where he was a farmer, rancher and carpenter. Many of his hobbies were hunting, fishing, playing dominoes, storytelling, cooking molasses, and making some good old-time sausage. "In the good old days", he enjoyed under banking for catfish with his good friend and neighbor, Paul J. Janak. He was also a fan of the Astros, San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Cowboys. But his favorite, was as spending time with his family and friends.

Herman spent his last eight years in Stevens Nursing Home. He enjoyed cruising the halls in his wheelchair, with something comical to say and he was best known as "being the little old man from Williamsburg".

Herman is survived by: his wife Frances; son Robert Sciba & wife Florence of Hallettsville; 4 grandchildren, Bruce Sciba & wife Laura, Russell Sciba, Marcia Nieto & husband Richard, and Rhonda Patek & husband Kevin; and 8 great grandchildren, Carissa, Brandon & Anthony Sciba; Madison, Trent & Landry Nieto; and Wade & Cami Patek.

Herman was preceded in death by: his parents, brother Steve Sciba, and sister Pauline Schindler.

We thank God for his long life and for many good memories.
