Henry Vaughn Layton, 88, passed away peacefully at home in Corpus Christi on March 23, 2023, after a brief illness. He was born on February 22, 1935, to Henry Franklin and Lola Vea Layton of Victoria, Texas. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged from the US Army in 1960 and married the lovely Opal Elaine Morris on December 16, 1961.
Henry was a man of many talents as all who knew him were well aware. He was a master mechanic in both the oilfield and automotive industries. He turned that talent into a full-time business, opening Custom Auto Supply and Service, in Robstown, Texas. He concentrated on building both quality race engines and race cars and eventually began drag racing himself, a hobby he absolutely loved.
Henry is survived by: his three children and their families, son Henry Vaughn Layton Jr. & wife Jacqueline of Little Elm, daughter Vonda Kay Krauser & husband John of Corpus Christi, and son Thomas Allen Layton & wife Jaime of San Marcos; brother Ronald Layton of Hallettsville; sister Hellen Appelt & husband Harvey of Hallettsville; 9 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.
Henry was preceded in death by; his parents, one infant brother, Vernon Layton, and his wife Opal Elaine Layton.
Funeral Service: 1 pm, Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Kubena Funeral Home of Hallettsville; with Visitation starting at 12 noon. Pallbearers: Mark Pierce, Gerardo Ramos, Valarie Krauser, Timothy Layton, Christopher Layton and William Layton. Honorary Pallbearers: Jeffrey Layton, John Krauser, Victor Krauser and Rianna Krauser. Officiant: Rev. Jim Herrington. Memorials: donor's choice. Burial: Salem Cemetery, Ezzell, Texas.
