Obituary

Helen Marie (Smolik) Belcik, of McAllen, aka "Nanny", 95, passed away on June 4, 2020.  She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many.

Helen was born in 1925 in Hallettsville, TX to Frank and Pauline Smolik.  She was the oldest of two sisters and one brother.  After graduating from Hallettsville High School in 1942, she attended Durham's Business College in San Antonio.  She was employed at the SAASF at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio.  In addition to working as a seamstress and supervisor of a clothing factory in Yoakum in her later life, she also worked as the chief cook for a variety of hunting lodges located on huge ranches in West Texas.

Helen married John H. Belcik Sr., aka Papa John, in 1946 after his return from his tour of duty in Europe during WWII.

Helen was full of life and fun to be with.  She enjoyed family and grandchildren, gardening, fishing, wild game, birds (especially red birds), slot machines, baking bread and kolaches and cooking.  She was a fantastic domino player and unbeatable at the game of 42!

Helen is survived by:  5 sons, John Belcik Jr. (Shaun), Charles Belcik (Mary Lee), Robert Belcik, Donald Belcik, Norman Belcik (Judy); daughter Cynthia Ebrom (Paul Jr.); 16 grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Collin, Meredith, Brandi, Chase, Isaac, John, Matt, Mandi, Denise, Greg, Daniel, Michael, Jeremy and Chris; and 15 great grandchildren, Lucy, Henry, Dylan, Jadyn, Bryson, Zackary, Blake, Jason, Jorge, Leif, Matthew, Madison, Leo, Eli and Henrik.

Helen was preceded in death by: her parents Frank and Pauline (Kutach) Smolik; her husband John H. Belcik Sr.; 2 sisters, Irene Bush & Margaret Dolezal, brother Frankie Smolik; daughter-in-law Teresa Belcik; and 2 grandsons, Paul Thomas & Nathan.

Funeral Mass Service :  10 am, Saturday, June 6, 2020, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Koerth, TX. Visitation: 5 pm, Friday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Pallbearers: Matt Belcik, Jason Belcik, Collin Belcik, John Phillip Alexander, Jorge Espinosa, and Isaac Ebrom. Officiant: Rev. Dominic Antwi-Boasiako. Memorials (in lieu of flowers): Comfort House Services in McAllen, www.comforthousergv.org . Burial: St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Koerth, TX.
