Obituary

Helen Marie Sestak Mitchon was born in Shiner, Texas to the late Joseph and Ella Dolejsi Sestak on March 18, 1934. She married Bill Mitchon on June 14, 1955 and resided in Rosenberg. In 1958 the family moved to Hallettsville where she was employed as a clerk at Grahmann's True Value, Lavaca County Tax Appraisal Office and Peoples State Bank.

During Helen's life she was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Christian Mothers, KJZT Society #2 serving as treasurer for over 30 years, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and Hallettsville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Helen had many hobbies. She enjoyed making Christmas candy and baking and decorating cakes for Sacred Heart Catholic Church picnics, organizational bake sales, school functions and other special occasions. She truly loved shopping and caring for her beautiful flowers in her yard. In her early years she sewed dresses for herself and her four daughters as well as close friends. She made baby pillows and blankets for all twelve grandchildren. Helen shared Bill's passion for hunting and fishing (especially perch fishing) and enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with Evelyn and Alton Sokol . Helen shared this love of games by teaching her grandchildren to play and found delight in watching cartoons and children's movies with them.

Helen is survived by her children and spouses: Carol and David Bohuslav Sr., Donna and Donald Shimek, Terry and Ervin Bludau, Rose and Doyle Hickson, and Billy and Brenda Mitchon. Helen has 12 beautiful grandchildren and spouses: David Bohuslav Jr., Malori and Wayne Palasota, Chad and Rachel Shimek , Brady Shimek, Britny Shimek, Cale Shimek, Kadee Bludau, Colton Bludau, Lana Hickson, Morgan Mitchon, Taylor Mitchon, and Hunter Mitchon. She had one great-grandchild: Cohen Shimek.

Helen is also survived by 7 brothers and sisters and spouses: Adolph and Leona Sestak, Joe and Betty Sestak, Charles and JoAnn Sestak, Dennis and Dolores Sestak, Albert and Suzanne Sestak, Delores and Larry Haas and Joyce and David Smolik. Sister-in-law: Evelyn Sokol.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband and parents

Funeral Mass Service: 2 pm, Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Friday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Rosary: 7 pm, Friday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiate: Msgr. John Peters. Pallbearers (grandchildren): David Bohuslav Jr., Chad Shimek, Rachel Shimek, Malori Bohuslav Palasota, Wayne Palasota, Brady Shimek, Britny Shimek, Kadee Bludau, Morgan Mitchon, Colton Bludau, Lana Hickson, Cale Shimek, Taylor Mitchon, Hunter Mitchon, and Cohen Shimek. Honorary Pallbearers: Melissa Kutac, Terri McGee, Michele Botnick, Faith Richarson, Sherry Raeke, Kayle Herrington, Forrest Wayne Timm, Staff at Hallettsville Rehab, Karen Burnes, Dr. Yong Du, Dr. Azhar Malik, Dr. George Osuchukwu, Dr. Justin Powell, Dr. Ann Wagner, and Dr. Mehran Nezhad. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Memorials: Donor's Choice.
