Helen Ann Bordovsky, 67, of Hallettsville, passed away on March 10, 2018. She was born on March 21, 1950 in Memphis, Tennessee to Sam Haraway Coleman and Helen Steele Coleman.
Ann grew up in Junction, Texas and graduated from Junction High School in 1968. She attended Texas Women's College in Denton and graduated in 1972 with a degree in Social Services. She worked for the Texas Department of Public Welfare in Jourdanton, Texas, and later supervised the Aged, Blind, Disabled program for several South Texas counties. During her employment, she met her future husband Robert "Sam" Bordovsky. She and Sam started dating in 1973 and became engaged in 1975. On May 1 1976 they were married in the United Methodist Church in Junction, Texas. Ann decided upon a career change and enrolled in the nursing school at the University of Texas. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing in May 1983 and became a registered nurse. She worked at Seton Medical Center in Austin. Ann worked in the in the oncology department and later in the medical-surgery area.
Ann took a large role in the design and construction of their home in Hallettsville. In 2003 she and her husband moved to Hallettsville from Austin. She enjoyed gardening and canning and freezing the various garden vegetables. Each year a group of family and friends would gather to make sausage. Ann enjoyed participating and cooking for the event.
Ann was a volunteer with Lavaca Medical Center Auxiliary. She served as the Parliamentarian for several years and was then elected President. She served in this position until her illness caused to go inactive. In addition to these positions, she managed the quarterly blood drive for the Auxiliary.
Ann joined the Lavaca Assistance Ministry Body Inc. (LAMB) in 2010 and served as a cashier until she could no longer continue due to her illness.
Cooking was an important part of her life. She enjoyed preparing gourmet meals for dinner parties for her friends. She also enjoyed baking for the LMC semi-annual bake sales, and since Ann's illness the sale proceeds have dropped considerably.
Ann loved to travel. Despite her illness, Ann and Sam enjoyed a Alaskan cruise in September 2017 which was one of many varied travel trips.
Ann enjoyed outdoor activities, such as bird watching, fishing and hiking.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Sam Haraway Coleman Jr.
Ann is survived by her husband of forty one years, sister Susan Lawler (Tommy), nephews Cole Lawler, Greg Lawler (Rebecca), and niece Michelle Morales (Richard).
The family would like to give special thanks and appreciation for the staff of Yoakum Community Hospital and her special caretaker. In lieu of flowers , donations can be made to the Lavaca Medical Center Auxiliary or a charity of your choice.
There will be a celebration of Ann's life at: 3 pm, Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Sacred Heart Family Center, Hallettsville, Texas.
