Helen Marie (Appelt) Spies, 78, of Hallettsville, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024.  She was born on April 9, 1946, to the late Frank J. and Wilhelmina (Siecko) Appelt, Sr., in Hallettsville.  She was married to Royce Richard Spies on September 15, 1963.

Helen was a loving mother, homemaker, and farmer.  She enjoyed baking, growing roses, and tending to the numerous animals on the farm.  Her children always enjoyed her delicious chocolate malts.

Helen is survived by: son Lester Royce Spies & wife Barbara Susan Spies; seven grandchildren, Robert, Randy and Rhonda (from her daughter, Rebecca), and Ryan, Anna, Kristen and Michelle (from her son, Lester); sixteen great-grandchildren; and sisters, Doris Kalmus, Bettye Appelt, Dorothy Benoit and Linda Haas.

Helen is preceded in death by; her husband Royce Richard Spies, daughter Rebecca Lynn Spies and brother Frankie Joe Appelt Jr.

The Spies family wishes to extend a special thanks to all of those who helped Helen. TC, Michelle, Bonnie and Mary in her deepest times of need over the years, especially her nephew, Kevin Bright.

Funeral Service: 10 am Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hallettsville. Visitation: starting at 5pm to 7 pm, Monday at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiate: Rev. Jared Stillions. Burial: Shiloh Cemetery.
