Obituary

Harvey James Drozd, passed away on January 6 at the age of 82.  He was born in Breslau to Jerome Drozd & Annilee Brunkenhoefer Drozd on August 17, 1942.  He was the second born to a herd of 6 boys and he spent most of his time growing up, either on the tractor, fishing, or bullfrog hunting with his brothers.

Harvey found love and married Doyleen Georgia Chromcak on June 11, 1961, and they settled in Hallettsville for the next 63 years of his life.  Together they welcomed two sons into their family Calvin and Dwayne.  He was a proud father and taught his sons what a "cool dad" was and gave them the opportunity to learn the hard way but never criticized them in the process.  He taught them all about tractors, farming, and raising cattle along with butchering and making homemade sausage.

Harvey worked in the Weingarten plant and also drove trucks in the evenings and did delivers on weekends in Houston, where the boys remember riding and getting donuts.  He worked for the Scurlock and Brio oil companies hauling crude oil.  He worked at Hal-Tex, and the Hallettsville High School as a bus driver and custodian.

Harvey was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and in the Knights of Columbus for 59 years.   He was a farmer and rancher and loved spending time on the farm drinking his suds under the pecan trees in Moravia.  He spent many hours on the tractor doing hay work or feeding cows but he enjoyed this and the quiet of the country.  He was a very compassionate person and would lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  Among other things, He loved his family and spending time with them.  He became a proud grandfather to 6 grandchildren.  Some of the fondest memories he shared with the grandchildren were taking them to Rockport yearly and fishing.  He loved his grandchildren very much which only carried over when he became an overjoyed great grandfather to 8 great grandchildren, there was never enough "Popo" to go around.  He was Daddy, Popo, and even Mutts to old friends who knew him.

Harvey is survived by:  wife Doyleen Chromcak Drozd; sons, Calvin & wife Patricia and Dwayne & wife Marilyn; brothers, Daniel, Jerome Jr. & wife Nan and Michael & wife Denise Drozd; grandchildren, Brittany Drozd & great grandson Zebulen, Shannon Grahmann & husband Jeremy & great grandchildren Jaedyn, Brantley and Maverick, Shane Drozd & wife Kelsie & great granddaughters McKenna, Laken and Woods and Braden Drozd & great granddaughter Harlow.

Harvey is preceded in death by:  parents Jerome & Annilee Brunkenhoefer Drozd; brothers, Clarence and Billy Drozd; sister-in-law Bobbie Lee Drozd; and grandsons, Ryan and Shawn Drozd; and beloved pets, Mutt, Peppy and Lilly.  Enjoy a peaceful eternity with Pooper Jack and Shawnee Bawnee by your side.  Until we meet again, Doyleen, Calvin, Dwayne, Britt Cat, Bookster & Poo.
