Obituary

Harry J. Monecke, 82, of Sweet Home, passed away Aug. 10, 2013. He was born on Nov. 27, 1930 to Herman & Mary Knezek Monecke in Cuero. He was raised in Sweet Home and graduated from Yoakum High School in 1950. He served in the US Air Force from Aug 1950 to June 1954, and received the National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Germany Occupation Medal (Frankfurt from June 1951 to July 1951).

Sometime after the service, he moved to Houston, TX, where he found the love of his life. On June 7, 1963, he married Genevieve Hermis (Kristoff), and would live their life together in Houston. Upon retirement, they moved back to his home place in Sweet Home in 1996, where he became an active member of the American Legion Post 571 in Sweet Home.

Harry is survived by: the husband of Carolyn, Larry Henske of Brenham, TX; brother-in-law Joe Kristoff & wife Effie of Conroe; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Harry was preceded in death by: his wife Genevieve; parents, Herman H. Monecke & Mary Rose Monecke (Knezek); four step-children, Eugene Hermis & wife Bessie, Lawrence Hermis, Carolyn Henske, and Lorene Muenster & husband Elroy.

The family would like to thank St. Mark's Medical Center in La Grange, Hospice Brazos Valley of Brenham, and the VA Hospital in Temple for the care of our Grandfather

Graveside Service: 1 pm, Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at Houston National Cemetery. Visitation: 4 pm Tuesday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Rosary: 7 pm Tuesday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Memorials: American Legion or Donor's Choice.
