Obituary

Harold Gene Timm, 88, of Hallettsville, passed away February 5, 2016. He was born on November 6, 1927 to Henry Garner and Eddie Lewis Timm Sr. in Lavaca County, Texas. He married Bettye Jean Botard on June 18, 1950 in Hallettsville. He was called Pop by his grandkids and eventually lots of others.

Gene served in the Navy during WWII, leaving high school early to join. Upon his return, he was a man of many talents, working in construction, appliance repair, the feed business, and delivering freight.

Gene could fix just about anything, from a busted refrigerator to a broken heart. A little bit tough and a whole lot stubborn, he loved his family and friends, animals of all kinds, and was proud of his country. He hosted Thursday night suppers at the Deer Camp and made some mean chicken noodle soup, party bread, ribs, and gumdrop cookies. He loved to hunt, build fence, raise cattle, and wear overalls and "jiffies." He was a jokester, ate his steak well-done, and always did things his own way. He gave love and was loved by many. Folks sure will miss him.

Gene is survived by: his wife Bettye; two daughters, Karen and husband Rusty Winn of Bellville, and Constance Van Zandt of Waxahachie; six grandchildren, Sarah & husband Steven Graham, Rachel & husband Jarad Bayer, Jillian & husband Brandon Blamer, Bethany Winn, Samuel Van Zandt and Carolynn Van Zandt; sister Alma Joyce "Sweet" Hrncir of Hallettsville; and two special animal friends, Fella and Chloe.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; son-in-law Don Van Zandt; 3 brothers, Forrest W. "Tommy" Timm Sr., Frank Timm, and Henry G. "Bunny" Timm; and 4 sisters, Nannie Jane "Doll" Moore, Bonnie Rae Buske, Elsie Marie "Rea" Powell, and Virginia Lee Mikulenka.
