Obituary

Mr. Harold Gene Ludwig passed away on Monday, January 28, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Harold was born February 5, 1934 in Lavaca County to Oscar O. and Mildred A. (Petrich) Ludwig, the oldest of five children.

He married Georgia Mae Rehak at St. Mary's Catholic Church on December 9, 1952. Harold retired after 45 years of service with Hoffer Truck Company. Since his retirement, he has enjoyed restoring old tractors, riding on his tractors and repairing old furniture. He also enjoyed his drives to the farm, which he always called "God's Country." Harold was an active member of the Hallettsville Fire Dept. for over forty years.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, wife and an infant brother.

Survivors include two daughters Barbara Grahmann & husband Alvin Paul; Debra Wick & husband Gilbert; one son Anthony Ludwig & wife Cheryl and all of Hallettsville. Ten grandchildren: Lisa Koehne & husband Justin, Steven Grahmann & wife Breann, Amy Floyd & husband Jeff, Laura Duty & husband Randall, Jennifer Hagan & husband Jason, Jeffrey Ludwig & friend Heather Kocian, James Ludwig & friend Glory Simmons, Jason Wick & friend Donna Kincaid, Kyle Wick, and Anna Wick. Eight great-grandchildren: Lauren and Landon Koehne, Kelci and Kacey Grahmann, Slade and Colt Hagan, Paige Ludwig and Gavin Wick. Two brothers, Larry Ludwig & wife Doris of Hallettsville, and Oscar Ludwig Jr. & wife Carolyn of Gonzales. And two sisters, Lucille Drozd & husband Gene of Hallettsville, and LaNelle Etzler of Victoria.

Service: 10 am, Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008 at Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville. Visitation: 12 noon, Wednesday, at Kubena Funeral Home; with the family receiving visitors from 6pm to 8pm that Wednesday. Officiates: Rev. Herb Beyer and Rev. John Peters. Pallbearers: Jeffrey Ludwig, James Ludwig, Steven Grahmann, Jason Wick, Kyle Wick and Ronald Drozd. Burial: St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery with the Hallettsville Volunteer Fire Department as Honor Guard.
