Obituary

Gladys Schlitzkus Fertsch, 98, of San Antonio, Texas, died August 3, 2010. She was born on Sept. 20, 1911 in Abilene, Texas to Gus & Lizzie Schlitzkus. She married Marvin Fertsch in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Florence Schlitzkus and Leon Adkison, Sr. on December 19, 1940, in Austin, TX.

Gladys worked at the Department of Public Safety in Austin for five years. She taught adult ladies Sunday school classes for over 50 years at her Baptist Church. She worked in W.M.U. Her main hobby was reading, and was an active member in the Reading Clubs and Garden Clubs in Hallettsville and San Antonio.

Gladys was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and will be greatly missed.

Gladys is survived by: daughter Betty Gail Fertsch; 1-granddaughter Bridget Nicole Best; son-in-law George Best & wife Laura; and 2-great-grandson Christopher J. Forehand and Chase Dallas Best.

Gladys was preceded in death by: her husband Marvin; parents Gus & Lizzie Schlitzkus; and daughter Peggy Joyce Fertsch Greenwall Best.

Graveside Service: 1pm, Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at Hallettsville City Cemetery. Officiate: Rev. Terry Horton.
