Mr. Gilbert G. Drozd, 84, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2007. He was born in Hallettsville to Sophie Kalmus Drozd and Joe Willie Drozd on November 8, 1922. He graduated from Hallettsville High School and was well known by many friends as "Killer" for his skills playing 6 man football.

Gilbert served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He received his Bachelors in Chemistry and Masters in Education from Southwest Texas State University. He taught in Moulton for 6 years and returned to Hallettsville High School in 1957, where he proudly taught until his retirement in 1986.

Gilbert is survived by Bobbie Jo Daniels Drozd, his beloved wife of 58 years; his children, Glenn Drozd and wife Carol of Hallettsville, Glynnda Fowler and husband Alan of Katy, Robert Drozd and wife Kim of Cuero; and 5 grandchildren, Lauren and Garrett Drozd, and Rose, Reid and Matthew Fowler.

Gilbert was a wonderful, loving, husband, father, grandfather, and teacher. He had numerous friends including former students which he enjoyed visiting with as they passed by his home as he worked in his yard and garden.

Service: 10 am, Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation: Noon, Tuesday at Kubena Funeral Home. Rosary: 7pm, Tuesday at Kubena Funeral Home. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Officiate: Rev. John Peters. Pallbearers: Robert Haas, Palmer Sommer, Ricky Zavesky, Jimmy Appelt, Monte Werner, and David Bunch.
