George J. Koncaba Sr., 80, of Hallettsville, passed away Jan. 13, 2015. He was born on Feb. 15, 1934 to Anton J. & Angelina Berckenhoff Koncaba in Lavaca County, TX. He married Mildred L. Janak on Dec. 5, 1981 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
George is survived by: his wife Mildred; 2 sons, Charles Koncaba Sr. & wife Charlene of Hallettsville, and George Koncaba Jr. & wife Carol of Sweet Home; 4 daughters, Sally Maulding & husband Larry of Gonzales, Rosemary Rothbauer & husband Bruce of El Campo, Lisa Henneke & husband Warren of Hallettsville, and Barbara Smoot & husband David of Atlanta, GA; step-son Mark Jares; step-daughter Pam Krenek; brother Edwin Kent; 2 sisters, Viola Konvicka and Patsy Faltisek; 12 grandchildren, Charles "Chuck" Koncaba Jr., Charlotte Ponish, Bruce Maulding, Lori Herries & husband Steve, Misty Strode & husband Charles "Tim", Gwen Kline & husband Christopher, Renee Koncaba & fiancé Gregory Steffek, Dwayne Bethke & wife Donna, Bradley Bethke & wife Shanelle, Clinton Rothbauer, Ashley Patlovany & husband John, and Brooke Henneke; and 14 great grandchildren, Sarah Ponish, Tyler Bartos, Raegan Koncaba, Weston Koncaba, Matthew Herries, Charles Scott Strode, Jase Kline, River Bethke, Raina Bethke, Alex Bethke, Jordon Bethke, Samuel Patlovany, Katherine Patlovany, and Madison Patlovany.
George was preceded in death by: his 1 st wife Rose Marie Zbranek Koncaba; parents; granddaughter Stephanie Maulding; step-daughter Patsy Jares; 4 brothers, Isadore, Adolph, Oscar and Willie Koncaba; and 3 sisters, Emma Pohler, Agnes Fojtik, and Delores Dreitner
Funeral Mass Service: 1 pm, Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Friday, at Kubena Funeral Home; with a Rosary at 6 pm. Pallbearers: Charles "Chuck" Koncaba Jr., Bruce Maulding, Bradley Bethke, Clinton Rothbauer, Charles "Tim" Strode and Christopher Kline. Officiant: Rev Barnabus Kyeah. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
